The Problem

Large sliding laminated glass doors are perfect when you have an amazing view like this house does, except there are a few drawbacks on sunny warm days. The house was getting way too hot and the glare was creating such a problem the owners were finding themselves not wanting to sit in the room, which created another problem as its all open plan.

Our Solution

Having carried out a survey and speaking to the owners to find exactly what they wanted and what they didn't want from an installation of window film, we were able to offer them a solution which would address both issues they were experiencing. The glass was laminated and therefore any window film applied would have to be applied to the external side as an internal application will cause thermal stress and crack the glass. We explained that the windows are quite large and would require a join in the window film and as we were using a medium solar control film this would largely go unnoticed. Not wanting to impede their view we would position this horizontally to the bottom of each window. They were happy to go with our recommendation which we knew was perfect for this house.

The Window Film We Used

We used external Sputtered Grey 35 which offers 57% glare reduction, 52% solar energy reduction and as with all our window films 99% UV rejection which as well as the original problem this will also help to slow the effects of fading to interior furnishings. The film has a light natural internal colour and can go unnoticed unless told it is actually there.
The customer was shocked to hear that we had finished installing the film as they couldn't tell anything had been fitted to the glass and initially couldn't even see where the joins in the film were until we pointed them out, a great result for us. We edge sealed the window film with a clear sealant to maintain its 7 year warranty and the installation was completed in less than 4 hours with no disruption to the customer.
