Orangery With Unbearable Heat, Bowdon Cheshire

Location

Bowdon, Cheshire

The Problem

A large orangery with 3 glass roofs was unusable despite having air-conditioning installed which couldn't cope with the amount of solar heat gain it was subjected too. The home owners were desperate to have the use of this large room where they entertained friends and family. The first option thought was to have roof blinds installed, but this was going to be very expensive and demand a lot of time keeping them clean from all the insects they would harbour and they would also take away a great deal of the natural light entering through the glass. The heat would still filter around and through the blinds too, so this wasn't going to solve the issue.

Our Solution

We checked the glass type to ensure the use of an internal solar control window film would be safe to use and would resolve the unbearable heat problem they had whilst also benefiting from blocking 99% of Ultra Violet rays, this would also help with any future fading of interior furnishings.
Scaffolding was going to be required to safely access the glass roof and all the floor had to be covered to protect it from any damage.

The Window Film We Used

We used our Solar Control Silver 20, a superb window film that rejects 80% of solar energy, 83% glare reduction and 99% of Ultra Violet light. This powerful solar control window film is used where there is a high amount of the sun 's heat to be reduced and will significantly reduce the temperature felt inside. It has a 10 year manufacturers warranty and we know from experience this window film will still be performing even after 14 years. It is maintenance free apart from normal cleaning unlike blinds.
The installation took 4 days to complete and the customer was extremely pleased with the end result.
