Low E Neutral Window Film Applied to Conservatory Glass Roof

Location

Bowdon, Cheshire

The Problem

A rather large conservatory that doesn't get used through the winter as its so expensive to heat due to most of the heat escaping through the glass roof. Then in summer it gets too hot, so again isn't being used to its full potential. We received an enquiry asking what if anything could be done to resolve both issues with this conservatory. A survey was booked so we could discuss the options available and we were able to provide a solution that would address both issues.

Our Solution

To offer a window film that will reduce over half of the solar energy the conservatory receives now through the glass roof and at the same time would keep it warmer during colder days of the year. We didn't want to use a window film that would make it dull or gloomy inside the conservatory as the customer explained they would prefer to have as much natural light as possible or it wouldn't be any different than having blinds installed. A quotation for blinds was over £9000! and they wouldn't give the desired result anyway plus they attract flies and insects and are difficult to keep clean where as window film is maintenance free apart from normal cleaning.

The Window Film We Used

An installation of Low Emissivity Neutral 50 Solar Control window film to all 26 glass roof units would reduce solar energy by 57%, UV by 99% and will radiate over 78% of internal heat back in to the conservatory. This window film is barely noticeable when installed as you can see from the pictures. We thoroughly cleaned all the glass then cut the window film oversize and neatly trimmed in every piece for a perfect fit. It took 8 hours to complete the installation and the customer was more than pleased with the finished result. Now they can start using their conservatory all year round.
